INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE MICROTEK FLATBED SCANNER
1. Turn on the Microtek flatbed scanner.
2. Turn on the computer. Generally, the computer will already be turned on.
3. Open Photoshop (double click the Photoshop icon).4. From the File menu, select Import, then Select TWAIN_32 Source.
5. Highlight Microtek ScanWizard and click Select button (You are selecting the flatbed scanner rather than the slide scanner).
6. Go back to the File menu, select Import, then TWAIN 32. (This time you are activating the Microtek scanner and the Microtek software will appear on top of the Photoshop screen).
7. Position the print on top of the glass using the arrow in the lower left corner of the flatbed frame as a guide.
8. Check the scanner settings by clicking the top arrow on the left side of the Microtek dialog box. It is typically set at Millions of Colors and 300 DPI. The resolution should be set to yield the appropriate file size for the type of scan required. See the following pages for suggestions about file sizes.

9. Click on the preview button.
10. Adjust the crop by dragging the marquee--the dashed lines.
11. Click the Scan button. The window will pop up telling you it is transferring the scan to Photoshop. When the scan is finished, a copy will appear in the Photoshop window.
12. Close the Microtek window by clicking the X in the upper right corner of the Microtek box.
13. Do any image manipulations in Photoshop. See following pages for suggestions about image adjustments.
14. Save the image. You may save on a floppy disc, a zip disc, or a jazz disc. Do not save to the hard drive. Open the File menu, select Save As. When the window appears, you will need to select a drive to save to. Click on the little folder at the top right side next to the "save in" box. This takes you up one level. Keep clicking on the folder until you see a list of drives. A = floppy drive; D = zip drive; G = jazz drive. Once you have selected a drive, type the filename in the box provided, select a file format, and save.
